CLASSIFIED POSITIONS AVAILABLE THROUGH CIVIL SERVICE TESTING
New hires of firefighters, police officers, full-time dispatchers, and some full-time clerical staff are from candidate lists formed through competitive civil service testing. Civil service application packets are available through this web page during the relevant test application period. You must print the application and then apply at the Human Resource Department in person or by mail. We do not accept unsolicited applications for classified positions.

UNCLASSIFIED EMPLOYMENT
The Civil Service Commission has no authority over unclassified City of Whitehall employment such as Public Service and Parks and Recreations laborers, part-time police dispatchers, and appointed clerical positions. These positions are filled by each hiring authority (department head) who may request applications that have been submitted to Civil Service. For that reason, the Human Resource Department accepts applications for unclassified positions and holds them for two years to be considered if requested by the hiring authority.
If you would like to apply for an unclassified (appointed) position, please download the application via the appropriate link or contact the Human Resource Department to request an application form.
